Hats off to ‘Topi’

Originally from Pune, Arjun Rihan just completed his MFA from the University of Southern California last year and his graduate thesis ‘Topi’ is already being talked about in the animation industry all over the world. Inspired by a family incident, ‘Topi’ (which means a prayer cap) touches the sensitive issue of religion set in the year 1947 but is as relevant today as it was then.

An emotionally moving film that is also a fine example of brilliant animation, Arjun’s ‘Topi’ has been duly recognised at various film festivals like the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, Busan International Short Film Festival and many more. Most recently ‘Topi’ was featured in SIGGRAPH’s Electronic Theatre.

It has also won many awards like the Best Graduate Film at the Ivy Film Festival, Best Short Short at the Lancaster Area Film Festival, Runner up at the College Television Awards and the Best Animation Film at the International Short Film Festival of India.
