Happy New Year Everyone!
The romantic that I am, I have decided to start 2015 with a post about a lovely couple, Aarushi and Arpan Patel. It is a cool story.
Aarushi and Arpan’s parents’ have been friends for ages. However, these two didn’t know each other until they met on Facebook in 2011 when Arpan was in London doing his Masters in Product Design from the University of Arts London and Aarushi was in India studying Fine Arts. Their similar taste in art and design united them. From then on, there was no looking back.
Aarushi went on to do her Masters in Art Direction from MICA (Mudra Institute of Communication, Ahmedabad) and worked as an Art Director for 2 years, she also worked as a freelance artist/graphic designer/painter/illustrator during the period.
Arpan completed his Masters and worked independently on an art project for his solo show at the Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai called “Tea Stories” which was a great success.
Soon after, they came together to fulfill their desire to work together, and ‘KASSA’ was born.
KASSA [pronounced [(‘k/ɑːʃ/ʃ/ɑː/)] meaning ‘Home’ specializes in leather collections including bags and shoes. Pushing forward their passion for natural beauty, KASSA’s collection has a rustic appeal to it. Each product is limited edition and an art piece in itself. Aarushi and Arpan believe in reusing, recycling and re-interpretation of materials and work with leather, canvas, felt and cloth. They also like to experiment with materials such as wood, mehendi, lacquer, cement, porcelain, damar (raw material used in roads), brass, metal and terracotta.
Here are a few of their designs. The neat detailing cannot be missed.
KASSA’s designs are primarily urban. Their logo has been created using two lower case ‘a’, the first alphabet of both their names.
