Artistic Book Covers

An artist at heart, Gunjan Ahlawat graduated from the prestigious National Institute of Design with a degree in Communication Design (Graphic Design). He was always interested in books so he joined Dorling Kindersley and then Penguin Books India, and shaped visual personalities of many books. He later joined The Glasgow School of Art to do his masters in Graphic Design, with a focus on art, book design + typography and textile design.  Here are a few of the wonderful book covers he has created:

Art, hand-drawn lettering, hand-crafted visuals are at the epicentre of Gunjan’s design work. He enjoys working for museums, art galleries, publication design, lifestyle and fashion industry, and the hospitality sector. In  2008 & 2010, he designed the India International Jewellery Show, Goa for the Gems and Jewelry Council of India in collaboration with National Institute of Design.

Last summer, Gunjan designed the brand identity for The City Palace Jaipur, and currently is working on an exclusive art book showcasing a museum’s collection through visual narratives.

Lovely write up Nisha on the book covers and the designer Gunjan Ahlawat. So one trend to be noted is that cover designers with textures and repetitive lines and patterns will replace photographic and pure painting covers that were also the norm earlier !
    What say Gunjan ?

Thanks Anoop for your comment. Well, the cover is like prescribing medicine…therefore the visual need/style will entirely depend upon the brief, target market and budget. I have done many covers with paintings for Harper and currently on a new one for Hachette and Westland.

      Thanks for your interest.

Grand! Just saw the Geek Nation book+cover in Landmark.
The physical book with the UV coating is great to hold.
    Also, please fix the links.

Thanks a lot. Yes, I would agree to Keyaar. I saw a copy during this trip to India. Even UK Hachette is buying rights to publish the cover in UK market. thanks
