Jazzing It Up

Composer and Percussionist Vivek Rajagopalan befriended the Mridangam at the age of 9, under the able guidence of Guru Shri T.S.Nandakumar. Aged 17, Vivek took to the stage, alongside some of the most talented jazz musicians from across the world at the The International Jazz Festival Thailand.

He featured in the famous Indian Pop artist, Lucky Ali’s album “Sifar” and was part of the Common Wealth Concert Tour in 2002. In 2003, Vivek joined hands with Bugge Wesseltoft, Per Martinsen and Dhruba Gosh to form RAGATRONIK. The band performed at the Jazz Yatra in India, Oslo World Music Festival, Norway and later in France and Belgium.

Vivek’s first solo album,“Moving Images” released under Blue Frog Records was nominated for the “Best Dance Act (Solo)” at AVIMA’09 and its track Snake in the City won the “Most Mind Blowing Music Video Award”.

Vivek has collaborated with many international artists to create music which is experimental and new. His impromptu jam with Bauchklang has been featured in their album “Live in Mumbai”. He recently played in Richard Bona’s new album, The Ten Shades of Blues.

Vivek also has a British sitcom “Mumbai Calling” to his credit. The show has been aired in 7 countries around the world.
