Intense India

Photographer Navid Baraty‘s curiosity with photography goes way back to one of his classes in junior high where for an assignment he wandered around the playground taking pictures, and then developed his photos in the school darkroom. That was the only class that he ever had in photography.

Photography has always been Navid‘s passion, but it took him a few years of working as an electrical engineer and then as a web developer to realize that it’s actually what he wanted to do with his life. Navid’s work has been published in National Geographic, and has appeared in numerous other publications and exhibitions. His work has also been used in a large-scale installation by Wellington International Airport in New Zealand.

Navid recently returned from a 15-day trip to Northern India, which he won in a photography contest. The people of India overwhelmed him with their affection, curiosity and an almost sort of innocence. His first visit to India proved to be an intense experience, which though he could not express in words, but has beautifully captured through his camera. Here are a few of those images:

Navid lives in Brooklyn, New York and is primarily interested in travel and documentary photography.
